An Australian tourist suffered minor head injuries after a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) capsized at Ta’ Marija Cave in Mġarr on Monday.
The 50-year-old was treated at the scene by the Malta Red Cross, whose personnel reached the cave by jet ski. He was reported to be in a stable condition and did not require further medical treatment.
Another Australian man, who was also on the paddleboard, escaped uninjured.
The incident comes just days after a major rescue operation at the same cave, where two stranded tourists and three Civil Protection officers were airlifted to safety by an Armed Forces of Malta helicopter after rough sea conditions made a sea rescue impossible.
The series of incidents has renewed attention on the increasingly popular cave, which has attracted growing numbers of visitors in recent months.
