Minister for Housing and Lands Owen Bonnici has announced an investment of €762,021 in refurbishment works across 11 social housing apartment blocks in Ta’ Xbiex, benefiting 91 families.
The works commenced in February and are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
During a site visit, Minister Bonnici said the investment reflects the Government’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life of residents living in Housing Estates while ensuring residential buildings are maintained to a high standard.
He added that the project will not only enhance the visual appearance of the area but will also contribute to a safer and more sustainable environment for the families who call these estates home.
As part of a dedicated Housing Estates maintenance and improvement programme, extensive works are being carried out on building façades, rooftops and communal areas to improve the overall condition of the properties and enhance residents’ quality of life.
The refurbishment works in the Ta’ Xbiex blocks include repointing and cleaning of stone façades, opening and repairing cracked masonry, concrete repairs to balconies, plastering and repainting, as well as the installation of vent covers.
Works on the rooftops will include general cleaning, the application of a liquid waterproof membrane, plastering and painting of rooftop structures and external stairwells, the reorganisation of water tanks and pipework and the safe removal of asbestos where required.
The communal areas will also benefit from plastering and repainting of internal walls and ceilings, repainting of stair railings, repairs and upgrades to lighting systems, the installation of new intercom systems where necessary, replacement of wooden meter cupboards with aluminium units, repairs to tiled and marble surfaces and the replacement of communal apertures.
Also present during the visit were Permanent Secretary Ramon Deguara, Housing Projects Solutions Chief Executive Marisa Marmara, Housing Authority Chairman Robert Ducker and Ta’ Xbiex Executive Secretary Simeon Nechev.
