Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government recorded that cumulative realized investment in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) across Indonesia reached Rp353.5 trillion (approximately US$19.6 billion) as of the first quarter of 2026.
Simultaneously, this capital inflow has created 266,000 jobs.
Speaking at his office in Jakarta on Monday, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso stated that this achievement serves as a positive signal amid global economic dynamics and several notes from international rating agencies.
"In almost all of the Special Economic Zones, especially those based on manufacturing industries, the investment has increased tremendously," Susiwijono said.
This optimism is grounded in the performance of several SEZs whose capacities are already fully utilized. Susiwijono cited three industry-based SEZs showing the most optimal performance: the Gresik SEZ, Kendal SEZ, and Galang Batang SEZ. These three zones have submitted applications for land expansion and development—averaging twice their existing area—to accommodate new investment demand.
"This shows that real investment in the manufacturing industry sector remains highly promising in Indonesia," he added.
Alongside the expansion plans, Susiwijono said there is potential for Rp846 trillion in new investments in the coming years, indicating continued investor interest in Indonesia.
He also raised the possibility of integrating SEZs with the Indonesian International Financial Center (IIFC). He said locating the financial center within an SEZ could provide additional layered incentives for investors.
SEZs already offer a streamlined regulatory and incentive framework, while the IIFC is a specialized financial initiative with its own set of facilities. If co-located within a single zone, investors could potentially benefit from combined incentives from both frameworks.
