If you’re heading back to school and need a proper desktop setup without taking up half your desk, the Geekom A5 is now $394 (was $437) at Amazon.
This 2026 Edition Windows 11 Pro mini PC comes equipped with AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD. In our tests, we found it “delivers a thoughtful design that ticks most of the general usage boxes.”
It’s compact enough to VESA-mount behind a monitor and forget about, capable enough to handle a full course load, and it ships with Windows 11 Pro and a 3-year warranty — a combination that’s hard to beat at this price for a freshman-year setup that needs to last. In the UK, the 16GB / 1TB Geekom A5 is currently down to £408 (was £479) at Amazon.co.uk.

In our review of the 2025 Edition, which is largely the same machine, we found the Geekom A5 is a reliable, capable machine for day-to-day tasks.
The Ryzen 5 7430U is a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a 4.3GHz boost clock running at a 15–25W TDP — which is why this machine stays quiet. Under normal student workloads it barely spins its fan up, and even under sustained loads like extended video exports it stays in the high 50s Celsius. That matters if you’re running it on a desk in a dorm room where fan noise is actually annoying.
The four-display support is the feature that grows with you. Starting out you’ll probably connect a single monitor. By second year, plenty of students are running two screens — a presentation window and notes side by side, or a video editor and a browser simultaneously. The Geekom A5 supports up to four screens at once via its two HDMI ports and two USB-C DisplayPort outputs, so you’re never going to outgrow it on that front.
The upgradeable RAM and storage is a genuine practical advantage over mini PCs that solder their memory. Start with 16GB now; if you find yourself running out of headroom in your junior year when your projects get heavier, drop in another 16GB or 32GB of DDR4. It’s a standard SO-DIMM slot, not anything proprietary. There’s also a second M.2 slot for an additional SSD, which is handy once your storage fills up with coursework projects.
The 3-year warranty is the detail I’d point attention to. Most budget mini PCs ship with a 1-year warranty. Geekom's 3-year coverage on the A5 means if something goes wrong during your time at university, or the first few years of school, you’re still covered. For a machine bought as a back-to-school investment, that longer support window meaningfully changes the value calculation.
For students who need a capable, quiet, upgradeable desktop that fits anywhere and comes backed by real warranty support, the Geekom A5 is one of the smartest back-to-school buys available right now.
