Tottenham Hotspur on Monday signed
Italy attacking midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for a
reported fee of 100 million pounds.
The 26-year-old set a record fee for the London club.
"I'm very happy to be here. When I arrived at the club, I had a
fantastic feeling. There was talk of four or five clubs being
interested, but in reality, there was only one," Tonali said.
"I spoke with the coach for almost two hours about the team, the
fans, the stadium, and the playing philosophy. It was magical,
because I immediately knew I had to sign for Tottenham.
"I've faced Tottenham several times and have always found an
exceptional atmosphere, created by fantastic fans. I can't wait
to start the season."
"We're all thrilled to see him wear our famous black and white
shirt for the first time," said coach Roberto De Zerbi. "He's a
special player and a great signing for us. I'm thrilled to be
working with him. Given his qualities, there was a lot of
interest in Sandro. He's clearly expressed his desire to join
Tottenham, and I know our fans will appreciate the contribution
he'll make to the team."
Tonali joined the Magpies from AC Milan in 2023 and played 79
games for them, scoring five goals.
He has 32 Italy caps and four goals for his country.
Tonali's career has been disrupted by betting bans.
