A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday ordered the remand of three suspected killers of a retired broadcaster, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
Oyesiku, a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), and her security guard were reportedly murdered at her residence in Abeokuta in June.
It was gathered that an odour emanating from the building attracted the attention of residents, who alerted the police the next day.
The police command in the state later arrested three suspects in connection with the crime, including Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, a former security guard employed by the deceased; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
The three suspects appeared on Monday before Chief Magistrate O. T. Odubanjo following an ex parte application filed by the police, seeking their remand for 60 days, at first instance, pending the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) advice for their arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction.
A legal officer at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, A. S. Abiodun, moved the application dated July 6.
Delivering the ruling, the chief magistrate granted the relief as prayed for by the police counsel.
The magistrate ordered that the three suspects be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Oba, for 60 days in the first instance. The court thereafter adjourned the matter until September 10, 2026.
