A Magistrate Court No. 8 sitting at Nomansland, Kano, has ordered the remand of five suspects in a correctional facility over alleged armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and illegal possession of weapons.
The defendants, Yakubu Adamu, Abdurrahman Ayatullahi, Abdullahi Ahmed Murtala, Abubakar Hassan, and Abdulgaffar Idris were arraigned before the court on the aforementioned charges.
According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly conspired and forcefully broke into the residence of one Alhaji Yunusa Hamza of Hotoro Quarters, where they allegedly stole property worth about N73 million, including a vehicle, mobile phones, and other valuables.
The prosecution further alleged that some of the stolen items, valued at about N20 million, were later sold to one of the defendants, Abdulgaffar Idris, for N700,000
After the charges were read to the defendants by the court registrar, Ahmad Bashir Abdullahi, no plea was taken as the court said it lacked jurisdiction over the matter.
Presiding Magistrate Hadiza Abdurrahman adjourned the case to July 22 and ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
