Javier Bardem Reveals If His, Penelope Cruz’s Kids Watch His Movies

Penélope Cruz isn’t cruising through her marriage with Javier Bardem.

Though Cruz, 52, and Bardem, 57, met over three decades ago, she explained that she doesn't know everything about the No Country For Old Men star and makes an effort to keep growing together as the years go by.

"I feel like I'm still learning [in my relationship], you know?" Cruz confessed to People in an interview published July 6. "And I am with somebody that I've known for 33 years.”

The Oscar winner—who shares children Leo, 15, and Luna, 12, with Bardem—reflected on the complex nature of relationships seen in her romantic dramedy The Invite, in which she and Edward Norton play the married neighbors of Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen’s characters.

“I really know that person, but it's like, is there a day where you really get to know yourself?" Cruz mused. "No. So the same with your partner."

Though Cruz and Bardem originally had a meet-cute while filming Jamón Jamón in 1992, they wouldn't pursue a romantic relationship until Hollywood brought them back together in 2008. That's when the Spanish stars reconnected on the set of another romantic comedy, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and ultimately got married in 2010.

But while the pair found love on a movie set, that doesn't mean they always want to work together. The Vanilla Sky actress explained why she prefers to collaborate with her husband only "once in a while."

"Obviously we can't choose parts just for logistical reasons, like 'Oh let's work together because it's easier,'" Cruz told Marie Claire in 2019. "No. In fact, it's not something we want to do that often, partly out of desire to protect what we have."
