Fire in derelict Auckland building contained

Emergency crews have contained a fire at the former Carrington Hospital building near Auckland's Mt Albert Unitec campus.

Fire and Emergency says it was called to the derelict building shortly before 1pm.

Six fire trucks were battling the blaze at its peak, which has now been contained to the first floor and is mostly extinguished.

Crews searched the building but found nobody inside.

A fire investigator is on their way to the scene.
