Yekaterinburg, Russia (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita advanced cooperation on the development of Indonesia's halal industry by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In Yekaterinburg, Russia, on Monday (July 6), Kartasasmita said the halal industry development is considered a priority, considering the growing global market demand for halal products.
According to him, this collaboration is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of the national halal industry and open wider market access for Indonesian halal products globally.
"We signed a halal cooperation agreement with Kyrgyzstan. We strongly support this, because the development of the halal industry in Indonesia cannot be done half-heartedly; it must be all-out, as the global market potential for absorbing halal products is increasing every year," the minister remarked.
Through the MoU signed at INNOPROM 2026, the two countries agreed to strengthen, develop, and promote the halal industry through various mutually beneficial activities.
The scope of cooperation includes developing and enhancing the global competitiveness of the halal industry, exchanging information and knowledge, and consulting on halal industry development.
Furthermore, the two countries will exchange expertise in training and enhancing the competencies of human resources in the halal industry.
The agreement also covers the promotion of halal products and services from both countries, holding joint seminars and symposiums, and developing other forms of cooperation as agreed in writing.
Kartasasmita conveyed that the cooperation will be realized through the facilitation of mutually beneficial joint projects, the development of public-private partnerships, including joint investment in the halal industry sector.
Furthermore, Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan will conduct reciprocal visits to facilitate exchanges of expertise, discussions, training, seminars, and conferences. The two countries will also step up promotional efforts by participating in exhibitions, business forums, and other joint activities related to the halal industry.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration would strengthen Indonesia's position as a key player in the global halal industry while expanding export opportunities for domestic halal products, particularly in the Eurasian region.
"Cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in the halal context will open up wider opportunities for introducing halal products to the Eurasian region," Kartasasmita remarked.
