Sara Duterte won't attend impeachment trial despite being at Senate

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte will not appear before the impeachment court on Tuesday despite already being at the Senate, one of her lawyers said.

Defense spokesperson Michael Poa made the pronouncement upon confirming to reporters that the vice president will arrive at the upper chamber.

“Yes I can confirm VP Sara Duterte is here, but she will only be here in a meeting with the defense team,” said Poa.

“She will not be attending the scheduled hearing this afternoon, she has engagements… she will have to proceed with her engagements after the meeting,” he added. /das
