Prabowo hosts Modi for talks on strategic cooperation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jakarta on Tuesday for talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in defense, trade, investment, energy, health and other strategic sectors.

Modi arrived at the Merdeka Palace at about 10:22 a.m. local time in a motorcade escorted by 17 Presidential Security Detail officers and a 120-member cavalry unit.

Prabowo greeted Modi on the palace's west porch. The two leaders shook hands, embraced and stood together for the Indonesian and Indian national anthems.

Prabowo then introduced senior Indonesian officials, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also attended.

Prabowo then invited Modi to the Credential Chamber for an official photo session.

The leaders held a private meeting, followed by bilateral talks involving their delegations and a state luncheon. They were scheduled to issue a joint statement afterward.

The discussions were expected to cover defense and security, trade and investment, food and energy security, downstream industries, critical minerals, health and education.

Modi is making a two-day visit to Indonesia and is expected to sign several memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements, including in health and technology.

He is also scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple to reaffirm India's support for the restoration of the Hindu temple complex.
