BIR Commissioner Charlie Mendoza confirmed the sealed box’s arrival after the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, ordered its return.
“We have received it… Around 11:40 a.m.,” Mendoza told the Inquirer in a text message.

The records were initially entered by the House prosecution panel as evidence for Duterte’s impeachment trial, particularly for the accusation that the vice president has unexplained wealth.
However, the impeachment court ordered the return of the box to the BIR in response to the request of the House prosecution to unseal and mark the contents of the box as evidence.
The box was subpoenaed by the House committee on justice during the impeachment hearings against Duterte.
It was left unsealed at the House panel hearing after disputes of violating the National Revenue Code, which protects the privacy of tax records. /mr
