President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity through the deployment of emerging technologies, intelligence-driven operations and the modernisation of the Armed Forces.
Speaking on Monday at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2026 and the African Land Forces Forum (ALFF) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the president said his administration was investing in modern military equipment and personnel training to improve operational planning and combat readiness.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the government would continue to build the capacity of the military to address evolving security threats.
“My administration is firmly committed to countering contemporary threats through the adoption of emerging technologies and capacity building across all battle spaces,” he said.
The president also stressed the importance of research, innovation and local production of military hardware.
He said the ongoing revitalisation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ability to manufacture defence equipment and reduce reliance on foreign supplies.
Tinubu described the African Land Forces Forum as a platform for strengthening defence diplomacy, regional cooperation and knowledge sharing.
Earlier, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara said hosting the event reflected the return of peace and normalcy to the state.
He urged the Federal Government to improve the welfare of military personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens despite evolving security threats.
He commended officers and soldiers for their dedication and sacrifices in various operations across the country.
