Jayson Gainza revealed that Piolo Pascual played a key role in convincing him to quit smoking, a habit he said he gave up in 2010.
Gainza shared the story during his recent contract signing with an aesthetic and wellness brand in Quezon City, after he was asked how he has been taking care of his health.
According to Gainza, the advice came while he and Pascual were working together in the 2006 television series “Sa Piling Mo.”

“Natutunan ko kay Piolo, Sa Piling Mo, aking first teleserye. Minsan nasa taping kami, may isa akong kaha. Dinampot niya, ginusot niya. Sabi niya, ’Itigil mo ’yan. Ikamamatay mo ‘yan,’” Gainza recalled.

The comedian-actor said Pascual also encouraged him to prioritize his health as he got older.
Tumatak ’yon sa isip ko,” he said.
Gainza said he took Pascual’s advice to heart and began adopting a healthier lifestyle in his 30s.
For example, coke, yung mga sugar, mga instant noodles,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gainza also addressed his recent viral Facebook post about receiving a ₱17,000 electricity bill from Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
He said the amount came as a surprise since their household’s monthly bill typically ranges from ₱6,000 to ₱7,000.

“Sa Meralco, nagulat lang din ako. Usually, 6,000 to 7,000 lang naman ’yung konsumo namin. Tapos itong last month, nag-birthday pa yung anak ko, 18 years old, nag-prepare kami sa Batangas. Parang 10 days kami na wala sa bahay, nagulat kami, bakit lumaki pa lalo,” he said.
Gainza added that they rarely use their air conditioner during the day, making the higher bill even more puzzling.
He said many people, including fellow celebrities, shared similar experiences after he posted about the issue online.
Wala pang nag-reach out sa akin,” he said.
