
Two people have been killed and several others injured in an accident involving a bus near the Agualva-Cacém railway station (municipality of Sintra) this morning. Among the injured, four are in critical condition, say early reports.
The emergency response involves 31 personnel, supported by 14 vehicles.
Information is being continuously updated by ANEPC – the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection. The alert was issued at 9.44am.
According to information obtained by Correio da Manhã tabloid, the Agualva-Cacém Fire Department, with support from other fire brigades, is providing assistance at the scene.
Updates coming through suggest that ‘an out of control bus’ ploughed into pedestrians.
Images coming from the scene show a large number of emergency response vehicles, with emergency lights flashing, congretated at the entrance to a tunnel, which is where the accident appears to have happened.
Concerns are that the number of fatalities may increase.
