It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Nelson, who died peacefully at his home in Mexilhoeira Grande, Portimão, Algarve, on June 28, 2026, aged 75.
John was born on August 3, 1950, in Middlesbrough, England, to Gwen and Ronnie Nelson. In later years, he made the Algarve his home, where he became a well-known and much-loved member of the local community.
He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humour, his quick wit and his ability to make people laugh. Whether sharing stories or enjoying a lunchtime drink with friends, John valued companionship above all else and leaves behind many happy memories for those fortunate enough to have known him.
John leaves behind his devoted wife, Michele Nelson, sister Sue, nephews Richard, Andrew and Michael, sister and brother-in-law Viv and Barry along with many dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, friendship and unmistakable personality. Although our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in remembering the laughter and happiness he brought to so many.
In true John fashion, many of us will smile whenever we think of those cherished lunchtime gatherings and how he would have wanted us to “get one in” before the service.
John’s funeral service was held at Fonte de Pedra, Alcalar, on Monday, July 6, 2026.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
