MANILA, Philippines – Super Typhoon Bavi still has a low chance of making landfall in the country as it nears the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said on Tuesday afternoon.
In the 5 p.m. forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), weather specialist Benison Estareja said that Bavi was last located 1,705 kilometers east of Central Luzon and was moving west-northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph). It maintained its strength as it was still carrying a maximum wind speed of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

“The tropical cyclone is expected to move starting Wednesday to Friday over the northern portion of Philippine Sea moving west-northwest to northwest until it nears Taiwan and Okinawa, Japan on Friday,” Estareja said in Filipino.
“If we are going to base it on the latest track and previous ones, the chances of it making a landfall is still low,” he added.
While he said that the super typhoon still has no direct effect in any parts of the country, he said that it started enhancing the southwest monsoon or habagat, especially over the western section of Mindanao.
He noted that starting on Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning, there is a high chance of rains over Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City), Misamis Occidental, and Lanao del Norte.

Wednesday weather forecast
Estareja shared that a huge portion of Luzon, except Palawan, will experience fair weather conditions on Wednesday. He added that there are chances of humid weather at noon and overcast skies with isolated rainshowers from afternoon to evening.
Meanwhile, he noted that overcast skies and light to moderate rains are possible over Palawan, Western Visayas, and Negros Occidental due to the enhanced southwest monsoon. The rest of Visayas may also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of isolated rainshowers.
He added that many areas in Mindanao will experience light to moderate rains due to the southwest monsoon, particularly in Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen, Misamis Occidental, and Bukidnon.
