
Two weeks after a shooting left three students dead and 20 others injured at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Francine Diaz offered support to the students by performing at the school where the tragedy occurred.
Diaz visited the school on July 6 and performed for students as part of a special program organized by the Tacloban City Government.
Videos shared on social media showed students singing along and cheering during Diaz’s performance, which included Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

The event was part of ongoing efforts to provide emotional support as the school community continues to recover from the June 22 shooting.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Tacloban City Schools Division supported the initiative, saying psychosocial interventions would continue even as face-to-face classes resume.

“While face-to-face classes will resume, the healing process will continue beyond the reopening of the school. The Department of Education remains committed to providing sustained psychosocial support through appropriate school-based interventions and wellness activities that promote the emotional well-being of learners and school personnel,” Schools Division Superintendent Sherlita A. Palma said in a statement.
Palma said the city government sponsored the special program featuring guest performers as part of its continuing efforts to assist the school community.

She added that the initiative aims to help students and school personnel cope with the emotional impact of the tragedy.
“Through music, art, and other uplifting activities, this initiative aims to provide moments of comfort, hope, and encouragement, helping learners and school personnel gradually recover and heal from the emotional impact of the tragedy,” Palma said.

The June 22 shooting claimed the lives of three students and left 20 others injured. The two minor suspects are currently being held separately at a Department of Social Welfare and Development rehabilitation facility, where they are undergoing assessment, rehabilitation, and the appropriate legal proceedings. /edv
