Former Al Nassr manager Jorge Jesus has emerged as the leading candidate to become Portugal’s next head coach following Roberto Martínez’s departure.
According to Maisfutebol, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) hopes to hold formal talks with the 71-year-old this week, with both sides aiming to reach a full agreement by Sunday.
If negotiations progress as expected, an appointment could be announced as early as next week.
Jesus is currently without a club after declining to renew his contract with Saudi side Al Nassr, where he coached Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix.
Maisfutebol reports that FPF president Pedro Proença privately considers Jesus his preferred choice to succeed Martínez, although no official negotiations had begun at the time of publication.
The proposed contract would reportedly run until 2030, covering the next UEFA Nations League campaign, Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
