Broadway Box Office: Maya Rudolph, Mariska Hargitay Play Final Performances Amid Holiday Week

Industry box office was down 20 percent last week due to the holiday week and fewer productions playing.

Maya Rudolph played her final performance in Oh, Mary! Sunday, sending the show off with a $1.5 million box office tally.

This made the play the fifth highest grossing show of the week, commanding the highest average ticket price on Broadway with $214, and coming in just behind MJ, which brought in $1.6 million. Meg Stalter took over from Rudolph July 6.

Hamilton led the box office with $2.1 million, followed by The Lion King with $1.87 million, and Death of a Salesman with $1.9 million, which the play brought in across seven performances. But overall, the industry took a hit due to the July 4th holiday, as well as the closure of three productions the prior week. This led to industrywide box office down 20 percent from the prior week and attendance down 11 percent.

Amid the holiday week and some scheduled absences, all 32 currently running productions saw a drop at the box office last week, with Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Schmigadoon, The Lost Boys and The Rocky Horror Show all seeing drops of more than $200,000.

Last week also saw the final performance of Mariska Hargitay in Every Brilliant Thing. The play brought in $1.1 million in Hargitay’s final week across seven performances rather than the typical eight. (The highest week of her run was the week ended June 28, when the play brought in $1.3 million). Capacity remained high at 99 percent. Tracee Ellis Ross steps into the role Tuesday.
