One man is in hospital with stab wounds and another is in police custody, following what police are describing as an "altercation" at a West Auckland petrol station.
Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said police were called to the petrol station on Rosebank Road in Avondale at about 9.30pm on Tuesday.
He said the wounded man was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Another man, a 35 year-old, was arrested at the scene.
He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear at the Auckland District Court on Wednesday.
