What readers are telling us
By Dannielle Maguire
Still have no phone reception since 5 o'clock this morning. I can text but not call. I am with Aldi mobile — Linda
Lost connectivity just before 7.00am AEST. Just managed to get reconnection at 7.58am AEST — Janeice
My wife and I stayed overnight in Parkes NSW on the way to Queensland. My phone works (Telstra), hers doesn't (Belong). Same Telstra network. — Ron
Also weird I called my private phone from the work phone and it went through?? But I can't call out on the private phone…. — Robyn
Two family phones are out this morning. My alarm woke me an hour early because the time was wrong! I thought I knew the time until about an hour later when my computer didn't match… I wasn't sure which one to trust! I guess our Aldi sims use the Telstra network. The phones can't connect to the internet, or send texts. I'm in postcode 2790. Happy Wednesday! Arghhhh :D — Rebecca
I saw this news article, then I looked at my bars, no network — I'm with Telstra. Luckily I have a dual SIM phone with a backup Optus number, which seems to be working but with 2 bars today. I still haven't been contacted by Telstra. Is this going to be the norm? Do we all have to use dual SIM phones? Don't mobile networks have backups? — Artim

By Georgie Hewson
V/Line passengers stuck at their train stations are calling in to local ABC Radio and sharing how they've been impacted by the outage this morning.
Wendy Farmer is stuck at Warragul station two hours after her train was meant to leave.
She said an announcement came through that the V/Line was down and they could make their way to Packenham station and take a suburban train.
"I'm not sure how we're gonna get there, it's a long walk," she said.
"I just feel like saying to them, 'Hey guys, I'm on Optus, you can borrow my phone.'"
She said she will be very late to a conference now.

'Large number' of people impacted by outage
By Dannielle Maguire
We've just received a statement from the Minister for Regional Development and Emergency Management Kristy McBain.
Her statement gives more of an insight into how many people are being impacted by the issues this morning.
Previous statements only said "some" customers were affected, but now it's "a large number":
"The Australian Government has been advised by Telstra that there is an outage affecting a large number of mobile calls and connections.
"We are also aware the issue is also affecting Victoria's V/Line regional train services.
"We understand Telstra is working on resolving the issue, and arrangements are being made for affected rail passengers.
"Like all telcos, Telstra must notify customers and emergency services of any major outage.
"Australian phones are also required to fall back to other networks for 000 access."
