
MANILA, Philippines — More areas across Northern Luzon were placed under Wind Signal No. 1 on Wednesday, July 8, as Super Typhoon Inday entered the country, according to the state weather bureau.
In a weather advisory at 5 am, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Chenel Dominguez warned of minimal to minor threats as Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted in the following areas:
Batanes
Cagayan
Babuyan Islands
Northern and central portions of Isabela
Apayao
Eastern portion of Kalinga
Northern portion of Aurora
Northern and central portions of Catanduanes
Bavi, located 1,405 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kilometers per hour, while moving generally westward at 25 kilometers per hour, Dominguez reported.
The enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, and periphery of Inday may bring strong to gale-force winds on Wednesday over the following areas:
Pangasinan
Zambales
Bataan
Calabarzon
Most of Mimaropa
Bicol region
Visayas
Mindanao
She added that gale warnings of up to rough sea conditions over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas are likely to be issued by Wednesday afternoon.
“We do not expect Typhoon Inday to have any direct impact on any part of the country for now. What we expect to bring rain to certain areas of the country is the southwest monsoon, or habagat,” Dominguez said.

The southwest monsoon is expected to bring gloomy skies and scattered rains over the following:
Zamboanga Peninsula
BARMM
Antique
Iloilo
Guimaras
Negros Occidental
Negros Oriental
Lanao del Norte
Sultan Kudarat
Sarangani
South Cotabato.
Palawan, the rest of Visayas, and Mindanao may experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to habagat.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Inday is forecast to weaken as a typhoon on Thursday afternoon or evening, and exit PAR by Saturday, July 11, according to Dominguez. /das
