LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Although Super Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines, the state weather bureau said it might enhance the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and bring rainy weather to most parts of the country this weekend.
In its daily forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the prevailing southwest monsoon is currently affecting parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the western section of the Visayas on Wednesday, July 8.

Similar weather conditions are forecast to affect most parts of the country on Friday, July 10.
“Inaasahan natin sa mga sumusunod na araw habang kumikilos paakyat itong bagyong si Inday ay makakaranas din tayo ng malakas na bugso ng southwest monsoon at magdadala rin ito ng pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa,” weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said.
(We expect that in the coming days, as Typhoon Inday moves northward, the southwest monsoon will also intensify, bringing strong gusts of wind and rainfall to a large part of the country.)
Wind signals up in Luzon
With Super Typhoon Inday inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Pagasa raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Luzon on Wednesday morning.
These areas include Batanes; Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands; the northern and central portions of Isabela; Apayao; the eastern portion of Kalinga; the northern portion of Aurora; and the northern and central portions of Catanduanes.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon and the outer circulation of Super Typhoon Inday will bring strong to gale-force wind gusts over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, CALABARZON, most of MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, most parts of the Visayas, and most of Mindanao on Wednesday.

The bureau said similar conditions would be expected to persist across much of the country from Thursday to Friday.
Inday’s track
As of 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Inday was located 1,405 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.
It packed maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 230 kph.
As it moves westward, Pagasa said the tropical cyclone may pass closest to Extreme Northern Luzon on Friday before heading toward the southern islands of Japan and the waters north of Taiwan.
Inday is forecast to exit the PAR by Saturday and make landfall along the eastern coast of mainland China on Sunday.

The weather bureau said Inday is expected to remain a super typhoon until Thursday before weakening into a typhoon by the afternoon or evening.
Although it is forecast to gradually weaken afterward, Pagasa said Inday would likely maintain typhoon strength throughout the rest of the forecast period.
