Ireland’s Padraig Harrington produced a commanding final-round performance to capture his third U.S. Senior Open title, matching the tournament record with a four-shot victory at Scioto Country Club in Ohio.
The 54-year-old finished the championship at 12-under-par after carding a four-under final round, overturning a one-shot deficit to overnight leader Stewart Cink, who struggled on the closing day.
The victory sees Harrington join Miller Barber as the only golfers to have won the U.S. Senior Open three times, adding the 2026 triumph to his previous victories in 2022 and 2025.
England’s Ian Poulter finished fourth, seven shots behind the champion, while Wales’ Jamie Donaldson shared fifth place. Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke ended the tournament tied for eighth on three-under-par.
Reflecting on his latest success, Harrington admitted he had underestimated the stature of the championship when he first joined the senior circuit.
“When I came out here four years ago I was surprised how big a tournament it was, it’s like playing an old major,” Harrington told the USGA.
The Irishman also revealed that the closing stages of the tournament were unusually stress-free compared to many of his previous victories.
“It’s very rare for me to win a tournament where it is actually boring coming down the stretch, normally there is some drama but there wasn’t much excitement today, which is nice for me.”
The U.S. Senior Open triumph marks Harrington’s fourth senior major title, following his victory at the Senior Open Championship last year.
Harrington enjoyed an illustrious career before joining the senior ranks, winning back-to-back Open Championships in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, he also claimed the PGA Championship to complete one of the finest stretches of his professional career.
