Why Ryan Seacrest Canceled His RSVP to Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Wedding
Good thing Taylor Swift likes her friends cancelled—because that's exactly what Ryan Seacrest did after accepting her and Travis Kelce's wedding invitation.
Indeed, the American Idol host abandoned his plans to attend the couple's July 3 nuptials at New York City's Madison Square Garden when he booked a gig to emcee the Disney Celebrates America: Nashville's Star-Spangled Bash televised special.
"I RSVPd to go, and then Disney hired me to do the Fourth of July 250 special," he shared on the July 6 broadcast of On Air With Ryan Seacrest. "And so, I had to cancel."
Shutting down playful jabs from his co-hosts Sisanie and Tanya Rad that his invite was a "waste," Seacrest explained, "I was kind of torn. I tried to do both. I tried to go to the wedding and to prepare for that show, but we started live on the 3rd."
What's worse, he said Swift was so excited by his initial RSVP.
"The irony was, after I RSVP'd the wedding, I saw them at dinner at a restaurant," Seacrest recalled. "She was like, 'Oh, it's going to be so much fun. We're going to have the best time. It's going to go late.'"
"I RSVP'd yes, I saw them a couple weeks later to confirm, then I had to cancel," he continued, adding that he "had no choice" but to call off his attendance. "This is part of my job at Disney."
Still, Seacrest kept details of his invite like an oath, following the "Blank Space" singer and the NFL star's wish to not have their wedding date publicized.

"I had to keep it secret," he said. "It was a confidential invitation to everybody that was invited."
In fact, he didn't even tell co-hosts Sisanie and Rad that he had been invited. As Seacrest recounted, "When you were doing your reports about the wedding, I was just on the inside screaming. On the outside, very composed to protect the privacy that they wanted."
Ultimately, Swift and Kelce, both 36, tied the knot in front of 1,000 guests, including famous friends such as Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid and Patrick Mahomes. The ceremony was officiated by Kelce's Happy Gilmore 2 costar Adam Sandler, with his brother serving as Best Man and Swift's sibling Austin Swift acting as her Man of Honor.
