Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty expressed hope the integration of Indonesia's QRIS payment system with India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) would be completed by the end of 2026.
"We hope that those discussions, along with the technology integration, can be completed soon. So, the process is still ongoing, but it is already at a very advanced stage," Chakravorty said in a press conference here on Tuesday evening (July 7).
Technical discussions on the integration are currently underway between payment system operators in Indonesia and its counterparts in India. In addition, the technology integration process has reached a very advanced stage.
Amidst ongoing state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia, Chakravorty said both leaders of Indonesia and India have expressed their intention to see the two countries' payment systems integrated as soon as possible.

The instruction has encouraged both parties involved in the negotiations to expedite the integration process.
"Since the two leaders have expressed their intention for this process to be realised soon, I believe that the instruction has been conveyed to the parties conducting the negotiations to conclude them as quickly as possible," Chakravorty said.
Earlier, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, President Prabowo Subianto and PM Modi announced plans to integrate the two countries' payment systems.
Modi said by integrating the two payment systems would enhance people-to-people interactions between Indonesia and India while also boosting bilateral economic transactions.
Once implemented, Indonesia's QRIS payment code will be usable for transactions in India, while QR codes from India's UPI digital payment ecosystem can be used in Indonesia.
