More than 31,000 people aged over 60 are still part of Malta’s workforce, according to figures tabled in Parliament.
Employment Minister Jonathan Attard revealed that 31,460 workers aged over 60 were employed in January of this year.
While the figure is slightly lower than December 2025’s 31,527, it marks a significant increase compared to December 2024, when there were 29,735 workers in the same age group.
The rise is even more striking over a longer period, with the number of workers aged over 60 climbing from 24,645 in December 2021 to more than 31,000 today.
The figures point to a growing number of older people remaining in employment, whether by choice or necessity, as Malta’s workforce continues to evolve.
