
BACOLOD CITY—Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental provinces are bracing for heavy rains brought on by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by Super Typhoon Inday.
Negros Oriental Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria issued an executive order cancelling all classes in the province on Thursday, in anticipation of heavy rains that may cause landslides and flooding.

In Negros Occidental, at least 10 local government units suspended classes on Wednesday, while the cancellation of classes in two other localities will start on Thursday.

The Office of Civil Defense reported that heavy rains triggered the evacuation of 16 families in La Castellana and five families of Pontevedra in Negros Occidental, and 57 families in Canlaon City in Negros Oriental on Tuesday evening.
Although the sun was out on Wednesday, heavy rains are expected in southern and central Negros in the evening until Thursday, Irene Bel Ploteña, Negros Occidental PDRRMO head, said.
