CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu is set to welcome its biggest international basketball event yet after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) officially announced that the city will host the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2027 at the SM Seaside Arena in the South Road Properties (SRP).
The eight-day continental tournament, tentatively scheduled for July 2027, will feature Asia’s top women’s national teams, including the host Gilas Pilipinas Women.
The event marks a historic milestone for Cebu as it will be the first to host the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in the Philippines.

All games will be played at the newly opened 16,000-seat SM Seaside Arena, Cebu’s first world-class indoor sports and entertainment venue.
The announcement was made during the tournament’s logo unveiling and press conference on Wednesday at SM Seaside City Cebu. Leading the launch were SBP Executive Director Erika Dy and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio.
“We’re very excited about it. It’s a premier event of FIBA. I know SBP has hosted other FIBA events in the past, but not yet in Cebu City and not yet in the women’s division. It’s a special event. It’s the gateway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics since it’s a qualifier also,” Dy said.
“Sana i-embrace ng mga Cebuano ang pag-host namin ng event na ito. I hope Cebu takes ownership and throws its support not just behind the Philippine team but all the teams coming here,” she added.

Also present during the launch were Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) and Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejano, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President Joaquin San Agustin, SM Mall of Asia Arena and SM Seaside Cebu representative Arnel Gonzales, SBP Board of Trustees member Franco Soberano and PSC Commissioner Edward Hayco.
Australia enters the tournament as the defending champion after defeating Japan, 88-79, in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup final in Shenzhen, China. China claimed third place after routing South Korea, 101-66.
The 2027 edition will also carry significant stakes, with the top teams earning qualification opportunities for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
A total of 16 teams are expected to compete in Cebu during the eight-day tournament.
