Visitors will once again have the chance to explore one of the Algarve’s most remarkable historic landmarks after dark as Loulé Municipal Museum resumes its popular Noites com o Património (Nights with Heritage) programme.
Every Saturday in July and August, the Islamic Baths and Barreto Manor House will remain open until 11pm, with guided themed tours beginning at 9pm.
Discovered during archaeological excavations in 2006, the 12th-century Islamic Baths are among the best-preserved medieval baths ever found in Portugal, offering a rare insight into daily life in Loulé during the Islamic period. The adjoining Barreto Manor House reflects a later chapter in the town’s history, combining two distinct eras within the same heritage site.
Visitors can explore the site independently throughout the extended opening hours before joining a specialist-led tour focusing on its history, archaeology, conservation and restoration.
The July programme includes:
July 11: From excavation to museum – Daniela Grelha
July 18: The city beneath the city: the Islamic Baths and other archaeological remains of Loulé – Rui de Almeida
July 25: An archaeological site as a starting point for local history – André Costa
The venue will be open from 10am to 11pm every Saturday, with the guided tours starting at 9pm.
Places are limited, and advance booking is recommended by calling 289 400 953.
