
MANILA, Philippines — A number of local government units have suspended classes on Thursday, July 9 due to the expected effects of Super Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi).
Classes are suspended in the following areas:

Culion, Palawan: all levels, public and private schools

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that at 4 p.m., Inday was tracked some 1,170 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, with a maximum wind speed of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja, in a separate 5 p.m. weather forecast, said that the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is gradually enhancing rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
He noted that there is a high chance of rains in Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro region, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City), and nearby areas in Northern Mindanao from Wednesday evening to early Thursday morning. /gsg
