Jakarta (ANTARA) - An official Indonesian government delegation is scheduled to depart for Iran on Thursday evening (July 9) to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani confirmed the timeline on Wednesday, stating that the delegation will fly directly from Jakarta to Mashhad—the city in northeastern Iran where the long-serving leader will be laid to rest.
"The Indonesian delegation to Iran is scheduled to depart tomorrow night,” Muzani told reporters in Jakarta.
The Indonesian delegation is expected to arrive in Mashhad on Friday morning (July 10), heading directly to the funeral venue.
The delegation will then hold a series of high-level meetings, including with Iran's foreign minister and parliament speaker.
The itinerary will be tightly packed, with the delegation is scheduled to return shortly after completing its meetings.
"We will not be staying overnight,” Muzani added.
The composition of the delegation remains unchanged from the government's initial plan.
It will be led by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Muzani, who is serving as the special envoy of the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Several prominent Indonesian Islamic clerics are also expected to join the delegation, though their names have not yet been finalized.
The state funeral marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in modern Middle Eastern history.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who governed as Iran's ultimate spiritual and political authority for nearly 37 years, died following a targeted US-Israeli military strike on Tehran on February 28, 2026.
The geopolitical landscape of Iran has swiftly adjusted in the wake of the assassination.
In March 2026, the country's Assembly of Experts elected his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, to succeed him as the new supreme leader.
