Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday bade farewell to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo District, marking the close of their two-day engagements.
Prabowo and Modi flew aboard a helicopter from Adisucipto Air Base to the airport after touring the Prambanan Temple Complex, where they launched a bilateral project to revitalize the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Upon landing, the two leaders embarked in separate cars, with Prabowo proceeding ahead in an Indonesia-made Maung Garuda SUV designated as a presidential vehicle.
Modi approached the send-off point near his aircraft, escorted by special guards from Indonesia's Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) walking briskly alongside the car.
At the edge of a blue carpet leading to the aircraft steps, Prabowo and several senior officials stood waiting to greet the Indian leader.
Both leaders exchanged greetings before embracing and sharing a brief chat. Modi further greeted Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Thereafter, a guard of honor held a ceremony to mark the prime minister's departure. He and Prabowo walked side by side along the blue carpet to the foot of the boarding stairs.
The two leaders shook hands and chatted once more before Modi ascended the stairs. Right before boarding, the Indian leader clasped his hands in a gesture of gratitude and farewell.
Shortly after, Air India One took off, escorted by three Indonesian F-16 fighter jets.
Meanwhile, Prabowo and his delegation departed the airport in the presidential vehicle.
The formalities marked the end of Modi's state visit to Indonesia. He arrived in Jakarta on Monday and was received by Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace for bilateral talks and the signing of 16 cooperation documents the following day.
Later on Tuesday, the prime minister delivered a speech at the House of Representatives Building and greeted Indian diaspora members at the Jakarta Convention Center in the evening.
He continued the agenda on Wednesday in Yogyakarta, touring Prambanan Temple by air and land alongside Prabowo.
