MANILA, Philippines — As Super Typhoon Inday is forecast to pass closest to Extreme Northern Luzon and enhance the southwest monsoon that could bring adverse weather to other parts of the country, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, as president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), attended the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) meeting to assess Metro Manila’s preparedness.
During the meeting, MMDRRMC member LGUs and national government agencies were briefed on the latest weather forecasts and the potential impacts of the approaching weather disturbance. Officials discussed preparedness measures to be undertaken by local government units and concerned agencies to mitigate flooding and ensure public safety.

Mayor Zamora reminded fellow local chief executives and concerned agencies to ensure that waterways, canals, rivers, and creeks are cleared of obstructions; that all pumping stations are fully operational, adequately staffed, and supplied with sufficient diesel fuel; that preventive tree pruning and the removal of hazardous trees are carried out immediately; that disaster response equipment, rescue assets, food boxes, and other relief supplies are already prepositioned; and that evacuation centers should be ready to accommodate residents should the need arise.

“We must always prepare for the worst possible scenario,” Mayor Zamora said.
On the possible suspension of classes, Mayor Zamora emphasized that the declaration remains at the discretion of the local chief executive. He added that if weather forecasts already indicate that heavy rainfall is expected on Friday, announcements on class suspensions should already be made by Thursday to give students, parents, and schools ample time to prepare.
Following the meeting, Mayor Zamora led fellow MMDRRMC members in inspecting disaster response vehicles, rescue equipment, and other emergency assets of the MMDA to ensure their operational readiness ahead of the anticipated impact of Super Typhoon Inday. /cb
