The White House has launched 25 “Freedom Fuel” gas stations in an attempt to provide Americans a cheaper option at the pump.
“The FIRST Freedom Fuel Network gas station has LANDED in Philadelphia, lowering the price at the pump to $3.47 for our 47th President,” the White House wrote on the social platform X on Tuesday.
“President Trump is leading the charge to lower gas prices this summer – putting more money in your pocket.”
Twenty of the stations are located in Pennsylvania, while five are in New Jersey, according to the Freedom Fuel network’s website.
The average price of a gallon of regular gas in those two states is roughly $3.98 and $3.86, respectively, as of Wednesday, according to AAA. The national average price of fuel is $3.79 per gallon as of Wednesday, AAA reported.
The Hill has reached out to the White House and Energy Department for further details on the new gas stations.
In an accompanying video posted by the White House, multiple customers tout the new gas stations as helping them save money. One man said he was “very happy” about cheaper fuel, while another girl remarked she was “super pumped” about the new options.
“When I saw it I thought it was fake news, but I’m glad it’s true. I definitely couldn’t believe my eyes when I just rolled past,” said another man, who added the Freedom Fuel station saved him “a lot of money” on a trip to the Jersey Shore.
Gas prices spiked in the early months of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, after the Iranian military brought shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to a near standstill. Last year, nearly 34 percent of the world’s crude oil passed through the waterway, with most exports going to Asia, according to the International Energy Agency.
Washington and Tehran have been locked in negotiations over the reopening of the strait for weeks; the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in mid-June to move toward permanently ending hostilities.
But on Tuesday, American forces struck more than 80 Iranian targets in response to the Islamic Republic attacking three commercial ships traveling in the strait, according to U.S. Central Command.
Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched strikes on U.S. military targets in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The escalation prompted Trump to say the MOU with Iran is “over,” less than a month after the two sides signed the agreement.
“To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum,” the president told reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.
Trump’s remarks sparked a surge in oil prices, with Brent crude oil — the international benchmark — trading at more than $79.82 per barrel as of Wednesday morning.
