Sally Field Lands Her First Emmy Nomination In 17 Years For ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’

Sally Field received an Emmy nomination Wednesday for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix film Remarkably Bright Creatures, 17 years after her last nomination in 2009. That year she won the statuette for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Nora Walker in Brothers & Sisters.

In the film, Field portrays Tova, the cleaning lady who bonds with the somewhat cranky Marcellus, an octopus wise behind his years, in Netflix’s screen adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling novel. It is the two-time Oscar winner’s first leading role since Hello, My Name Is Doris. As a lonely widow who has suffered more than her life’s share of grief and loss, Field’s Tovar shares her innermost thoughts and sadness with Marcellus.

Field previously won Emmys in 2003 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for ER and in 1977 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Sybil. She has two Academy Awards out of three career nominations. She won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performances in Norma Rae (1979) and Places in the Heart (1984), and earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Lincoln (2012).
