Hacks is going out in a big way, landing the most Emmy nominations in a single year in the comedy category for its final season.
The HBO Max comedy landed 24 nods when the nominations were announced on Wednesday morning, besting the record previously held in 2025 by The Studio and in 2024 by The Bear (which each had 23 nominations). It has also surpassed Schitt’s Creek record for most nominations for a comedy series’ last season, which landed 15 noms in 2020 for its final run.
Recognition for Hacks‘ fifth and final season includes noms for best comedy series, best actress for Jean Smart, best supporting actress for Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter and best supporting actor for Paul W. Downs. The show was also nominated for writing and directing, along with Leslie Bibb, Laurie Metcalf, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Lauren Weedman and Cherry Jones all being recognized as guest performers.
This brings Hacks‘ lifetime Emmy total to 86 nominations and 12 wins, including four past wins for Smart, one for Einbinder and a best comedy series win in 2024. The series, which followed the endless hijinks of legendary comedian Deborah Vance and comedy writer Ava Daniels, came to an end in May.
Other leaders in this year’s nominations include The Pitt — this year’s most-nominated show overall as well as topper of the drama category with 25 nods — Widow’s Bay (with 19), Pluribus (with 18) and Beef (with 16).
The 78th Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will air Monday, Sept. 14 from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, live on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
