Lamar Odom Clarifies Comments About Marrying Ex Khloe Kardashian for Fame
Lamar Odom thought Khloe Kardashian was the only one who could keep up with him.
Four months after Odom made comments about his ex in his Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, he clarified that the belief he married her for fame was not the message he intended to send.
“That never came out of my mouth,” Odom said during a recent appearance on the Nothing’s Off The Table with Louis Ruggiero podcast. “I think that was my kids or my children or whoever they were interviewing at that time.”
And while Odom did, in fact, say he wanted to marry Kardashian after seeing her family’s “lifestyle” in the documentary, which hit Netflix in March, he clarified he didn’t necessarily mean their fame. As he put it, “I didn’t really need more clout.”
Nodding to his NBA Championship ring, Odom shrugged, “I had one of these.”
And at the time of his marriage to Kardashian—the pair married in 2009 and finalized their divorce in 2016—Odom also noted he was playing on the Lakers with LeBron James.
“I’m playing with the best player of my generation,” he said, noting of his relationship with Kardashian, “It just fit.”
But even so, Odom—who has also dated Taraji P. Henson—posited, “I didn’t really need anybody at that time.”
Despite Odom’s clarification, Kardashian previously slammed his commentary on fame and their former relationship in his recent documentary.

“You’re sitting on camera saying you married me for fame,” Kardashian said during an April episode of her Khloe in Wonder Land podcast. “I saw some TikTok that was like, ‘Wait, am I such a fool? Because I thought they really loved each other, didn’t they?’ And the person was like, ‘Did anyone else feel that way?’”
To which the Good American founder emphasized she at least did, but raising her hand.
“That’s like some f--ked up s--t,” Kardashian added of Odom’s previous claims. “I feel so dumb, I spent hours and time doing this documentary as a favor. I’m not paid one penny.”
