Emmy nominations 2026 revealed, with The Pitt and Hacks topping list

Nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards have arrived, and hit HBO medical drama The Pitt is the leading nominee, including with a nod for Best Drama.

Set in an emergency room in Pittsburgh, the series collected 25 nominations overall, eight of which are nominations for actors in a best category.

Comedy series Hacks was a close second with 24 total nominations.

Voters also nominated The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends and Neighbors for the top Emmy prize of best drama.

In the best comedy race, Hacks will compete with Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking and Widow's Bay.

Jean Smart, who plays comedian Deborah Vance on Hacks, has been named best comedy actress for the role four times and was nominated again for the show's fifth and final season. She will face Ayo Edebiri of The Bear, Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary and others.

Smart's Hacks co-star Hannah Einbinder was nominated for supporting comedy actress. Other acting nominees included Harrison Ford for his supporting role on Shrinking and Zendaya for her leading role in Euphoria.

Jason Bateman landed four Emmy nominations, two for acting and producing DTF St. Louis and two more for acting and directing limited series Black Rabbit.

When are the Emmys?

The 78th Annual Primetime Emmys will broadcast live from Los Angeles's Peacock Theater in the evening of September 14. For us in Australia, the broadcast will take place on Tuesday, September 15 at around 10am AEST, or closer to 7am for the west coast.

The winners from each category will be chosen by the roughly 26,000 performers, directors, producers and other members of the Television Academy.

Adelaide actress stars in Best Drama nominee

South Australian born actress, Shabana Azeez holds one of the lead roles in The Pitt, starring as Dr Victoria Javadi, an intern doctor navigating the politics of an emergency room.

The 29-year-old has been immersed in the world of Australian indie television since 2018, featuring in The Hunting and In Limbo.

Azeez' breakout role came in 2023 as a lead in the Australian psychological thriller Birdeater, which went on to feature at US film festival, South by Southwest.
