The boss of Satnam Singh, an

off-the-books 31-year-old Indian farm labourer who bled out

after being dumped outside his hut with an arm severed by

wrapping machinery placed beside him on a fruit picking box at

Latina

south of Rome two years ago, got 16 years in jail for

manslaughter Wednesday in a case that has shone a spotlight on

ruthless gangmastering in Italy.

The leftwing trade union CGIL, students and members of Singh's

local Sikh community demonstrated outside the courthouse in the

city founded by Mussolini in 1932.
