Jean Smart Pokes Fun at Her Broken Knee After Her Emmys 2025 Win

The 2026 Emmy Awards is getting ready to roll out the red carpet.

After all, nominations for the 78th annual ceremony were announced by The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas and Somebody Somewhere's Jeff Hiller live from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on July 8.

With Hacks concluding with its fifth and final season, it was only fitting that the series dominated the comedy category, earning 24 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing.

Jean Smart has a golden chance of taking home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series once again, having won the category four times since 2021—Abbott Elementary's Quinta Brunson took home the title in 2023—at the annual award show. The 74-year-old is up against a stacked lineup with Brunson, Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and Elle Fanning (Margo's Got Money Troubles) and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback).

Similarly, The Pitt held its own, scrubbing in with 25 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Noah Wyle is a top contender for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series—which he won at last year's award show for season one of the medical drama—alongside Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Mark Ruffalo (Task), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) and Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat).

Wyle's first Emmy win was emotional, with the actor focusing on the heart of the show during his acceptance speech. The ER alum told viewers, "If anybody is going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you."

Although some shows like Pluribus, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, Shrinking, The Bear and Only Murders in the Building were expected to snag some nods at the Sept. 14 award show—which will stream live on NBC and Peacock—others were more surprising.

Take, for instance, Euphoria, which earned seven nominations for its final season despite a lackluster critical reaction. Nonetheless, Zendaya was able to shake up the Lead Actress in a Drama Series alongside Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).
