Bad Bunny landed his first-ever Emmy nomination today for his wildly ambitious 2026 Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, a fitting rejoinder to all the naysayers – including the President of the United States – whose harsh pronouncements smacked of jingoistic griping. “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying,” Donald Trump posted on social media about the show performed largely in Spanish.
Clearly the TV Academy understood, offering up nine Emmy nominations in total. (Bad Bunny only gets one nomination, though, in the Outstanding Variety Special Live category; if it’s any consolation, he’s listed twice in that category, for hosting and, under his birth name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, for his role as supervising producer).
His competition for the outstanding live variety special Emmy will be The 83rd Annual Golden Globes (CBS); The 68th Annual Grammy Awards (CBS); The Oscars (ABC); and The 78th Annual Tony Awards (CBS).
The Super Bowl LX Halftime Show also landed nominations for Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming, Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special, Outstanding Hairstyling For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program, Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Special, Outstanding Music Direction and a nod each for Technical Direction/Camerawork and Sound Mixing.
Emmy voting ends on August 26, and the Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on September 14.
