Based on official photos circulating online, the volcano emitted meters-high of ash plume, visible as far as Iloilo City in the neighboring island of Panay.
Kanlaon, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, remains under Alert Level 2, meaning the public is still barred from entering the 4-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone around the crater due to the continued risk of sudden and hazardous eruptions.
Phivolcs said it continues to closely monitor the volcano’s seismic activity, sulfur dioxide emissions, and ground deformation, and advised residents in nearby areas to remain alert for possible ashfall.
This is the latest in a series of eruptions at Kanlaon this year, following similar moderately explosive events recorded in February, March, and May.
