Nadine Lustre disclosed that the court has sentenced the male netizen she sued in 2025 for violation of the Safe Spaces Act over a “triggering” Instagram comment.
The actress spoke about the case during the media conference for her series “Love, Siargao” on Wednesday, July 8, where the topic of bashing and online harassment on social media were discussed.
“Merong nag-comment sa Instagram ko, medyo ano siya, trigger warning,” she recalled, as reported by Bandera. “May nag-comment kasi sa Instagram ko na I would say leading towards online sexual harrassment na siya.”

Lustre said she initially just shrugged off the remark but later realized that a lot of people were triggered by it. She noted that the netizen even added another comment that was “worse” than the first one.
“Meron din akong legal counsel at that time who really pushed me to file a case against this person. I think I did it because, obviously, number one, it wasn’t right to do that,” she stated.
“Second, I felt a bit responsible for the comment and I wanted to do something about it. Because parang hindi ko ma-stomach yung injustice or yung ganoon na (I cannot stomach such) knowing na there are people who actually went through that,” she continued.
Lustre said their team was able to track the netizen despite the latter using a different profile photo, and that they were able to serve him the legal documents. The actress said she also met him in person.

“I just felt it [filing the case] was right. I’ve never talked about this kasi sobrang recent lang din nito although the comment did happen last year. Yung case namin was only closed like recently lang. We filed a case,” she shared.
“I just wanted people to understand that even if you’re hiding behind the screen, hindi pwedeng magsalita ka lang ng kung anong gusto mong sabihin to another person. Parang there has to be an accountability,” she stressed.

While she did not expound on the specific details on the court resolution, she revealed, “He was obviously given a sentence and of, course, rehabilitation as well. He was going to go through mga seminar for gender sensitivity and all of that.”
Lustre added that the netizen had also apologized to her.

“Something needs to be done about this and hoping that this is the start of… I wouldn’t say naman na this is the start of social media changing and making it a better place,” she said. “But at least for people who are so used to doing this or saying bad things about other people or bashing other people, at least for them to know that they’re not safe.” /edv
