The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed claims that its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that its structure in the area remains intact ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, described the reported defections as “baseless” and accused the Kwankwasiyya movement of spreading propaganda to divert attention from what it termed its internal challenges.
Soja said the APC still enjoys the loyalty of its major political stakeholders and members in Kumbotso, adding that the party had no record of the identities of the alleged defectors.
“The APC in Kumbotso remains united and fully loyal to the party leadership. The purported defections lack credible evidence, and those being paraded are unknown to the party,” he said.
He maintained that party members in the area were satisfied with the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the Kaduna–Kano–Maradi standard gauge railway, which pass through parts of Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The APC spokesman also said party members appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for attracting investments to Kumbotso aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities for youths.
He urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on addressing what he described as its internal leadership crisis instead of engaging in “baseless propaganda.”
According to him, Kano voters would not be swayed by what he called political gimmicks ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC called on residents to disregard reports of mass defections in Kumbotso, insisting that the party remains united and firmly rooted in the local governmen
