The pain that changed a young life

What seemed like an ordinary arm pain after a day of playing volleyball would soon change 15-year-old Justin Aquino’s life.

In September 2025, the active teenager from Panadtaran, San Fernando, Cebu began experiencing persistent pain in his left arm. Thinking it was simply a result of spending long hours playing volleyball, his family initially sought traditional treatment. But as the pain intensified and his arm became severely swollen, they knew something was seriously wrong. Worried for their son’s health, his parents brought him to Carcar District Hospital, where he was referred to hospitals in Cebu City for further medical evaluation.

After undergoing series of examinations and laboratory procedures, Justin was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma – a type of bone cancer. In March 2026, he underwent surgery and was confined for five days. After surgery his treatment journey continues through regular chemotherapy sessions and related medical procedures.

The financial burden of his treatment has become overwhelming for the family. Justin’s father works as a chorizo maker and earns only enough to support their daily needs, while his mother left her full-time job to care of him and now accepts occasional tailoring work to help provide for her family.

Despite his illness, Justin remains determined to pursue his education. A consistent academic achiever since elementary school, he is currently completing Grade 10 through modular learning. He continues to hold on to his dream of becoming a passionate flight attendant someday.

Today, Justin and his family are seeking the help of kind-hearted individuals for support as they continue to face the financial demands of his treatment. Any amount can make a meaningful difference in helping him continue his fight against cancer. May we come together as a community to give Justin hope and a chance to navigate the skies.
