
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Several domestic flights to and from Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) were canceled on Thursday, July 9, following the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island earlier in the day, airport officials announced.

The following flights have been canceled, according to the latest advisory from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport:
PR 2279 CEB-BCD (Cebu–Bacolod)
PR 2313 CEB-CGY (Cebu–Cagayan de Oro)
PR 2664 CEB-USU (Cebu–Busuanga)
PR 2850 CEB-MNL (Cebu–Manila)
PR 2351 CEB-IAO (Cebu–Siargao)
PR 2682 CEB-USU (Cebu–Busuanga)
DG 6855 CEB-IAO (Cebu–Siargao)
PR 2360 MPH-CEB (Boracay–Cebu)
Passengers with affected bookings are advised to coordinate directly with their respective airlines for rebooking, refund, or rerouting options.

Kanlaon Volcano eruption
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology confirmed a moderately explosive eruption at Kanlaon’s summit crater around 7:33 a.m., lasting about three minutes and producing a dark gray ash plume that rose two to three kilometers from the crater before drifting eastward.

The eruption ended around 7:36 a.m., with no immediate reports of casualties as of this writing.
Phivolcs has kept Kanlaon under Alert Level 2 and reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone remains strictly prohibited.
Ashfall from the eruption also drifted into Cebu, prompting at least 20 localities to suspend work and classes as a safety precaution. / ###
