
BACOLOD CITY—A sudden whirlwind struck coastal areas in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, early Thursday, leaving 20 houses partially damaged, Hinigaran Mayor Grace Arceo said.
The roofs of the affected houses were blown off, she said.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m., catching residents by surprise as swirling winds ripped through the communities.

The partially damaged houses were in Punta Pasil of Barangay Tagda-8, Sitio Raming of Barangay Pilar-7, and Punta Tanulo of Barangay Pilar-3, the PDRRMO said.
No casualties or severe injuries have been reported.
The local government of Hinigaran immediately deployed response teams to assess the full extent of the destruction and provide the necessary relief and assistance to the affected families.
Galvanized iron sheets were provided to the affected households, Arceo said./coa
